Problem
Flyers are pretty legit source of conveying information,
but around 80% people throw them immidiately.
How can we make flyers interesting enough that people pick them, then are intregued to access
the information? Can we digitlise them somehow while keeping the original feel intact?
Research
Why are flyers becoming ineffective day be day?
They are a good tool out there to market or tell information about your product, but after
researching we found out that there are a couple of problems with paper flyers:
one-way communication
AI that acts too human can feel misleading, while purely functional chatbots feel cold. This creates discomfort instead of trust.
Information overload

not personalised

Low pickup intent

Who and where people interact with the flyers:
Primary users
For our context we decided on people from the age 18 to 35 who are a bit curious and who are wanting to try new technology.
Context
Mainly for context there are two use cases:
The person opens the flyer on-site
If they find it interesting they keep it in their pocket and take it home. Then when they have time they open it

APP DESIGN

Home Screen
Upon opening the app, users land on the home screen where they can either start the experience or learn how the app works. Since AR is still unfamiliar to many, we included a quick explanation to build clarity and confidence before they begin scanning the flyer.

AR integration
As users begin scanning the flyer, the AR experience is triggered with a character-led story. Here, the app recogniz specific panels on the flyer and overlays animations and interactive questions. For instance, when scanning the toothbrush section, users are prompted to reflect on their own daily choices, like which toothbrush they use, making the experience both playful and self-reflective.

Results and deeper insight
After completing the scan and quiz, users are presented with a personalized summary of their estimated plastic intake, visually translated into credit card equivalents to create a tangible impact. Each item scanned reveals specific facts about its environmental footprint. By tapping “More Info,” users can dive into detailed explanations about microplastic sources and sustainable alternatives.

Other bits
Design System
We chose a calm, eco-friendly color palette with soft greens and muted tones to reflect the theme of sustainability. A clean, minimal design system was created in Figma with reusable components like buttons, icons, and text styles to ensure visual consistency across the app.

REFLECTION
What I learned:
The showcase proved that simplicity made the experience intuitive and sparked genuine reflection.
I learned that reducing complexity strengthens impact, clarity always beats more features.
